Why should I choose
Test Scholars ?
Test Scholars (formerly TestTakers) has been offering the
finest in test preparation to Bay Area students for over 15 years. Our
unique combination of skill review and strategy instruction gives us
the highest average score improvement in the business; an amazing score
improvement average of 152 points! (1993-2002).
Who are your
instructors?
Our instructors come from the top universities in the nation. Many of
them have completed teacher credential programs in the Bay Area. They
are selected based on their mastery of test content, teaching
experience and their prior students' evaluations score improvements. Test Scholars teachers are
rigorously trained to ensure that they are experts on standardized
testing.
Where are your
classes located?
Generally
, it takes 6 students to hold a class in a new location. Call (510) 548-6168 form a class in
your town!
When should I take the course?
That depends on what test you are
preparing for. If you are taking an exam in October, take the summer or
fall course. If you are taking a November or December test, take the
fall course. Students taking a March test should register for winter;
for a May or June test, register for spring. Seniors: remember that
October and November tests are your last chance before college
applications are due!
Although it varies with the student and the
student's goals,
the average amount of time needed to do a thorough preparation
for the SAT I is 8-10 weeks.
In the case of a junior, use the PSAT scores as a
baseline.
If one or more of the three separate PSAT scores
(Math, Verbal and Writing) is below 55 (equivalent to 550
out of 800 in SAT terms), preparation should be
done in Nov-Dec-Jan and the SAT I test taken in late
January. This would leave ample time to do a review
and take it again in late March if necessary.
On the other hand, if all three PSAT scores are above
55,
preparation can be done in Jan-Feb-March and the test
taken in late March. As for the SAT II's, they should be
taken in May and June: this would typically include the
Writing test, Math IC or IIC and a third test of the
student's choice.
Although up to three tests can be taken on a
particular
test date, I recommend not taking more than two as
concentration tends to decrease in the third hour.
The fall of the senior year can be used as a back-up,
in case any tests need to be retaken.
A high school senior, ideally, should have already
taken SAT I and the required SAT II's. But in many cases
the student is not satisfied with the scores. Depending
on which schools the student is applying to and if
early decision/early action is not needed, the student
may still have a good chance of improving both his SAT I
and SAT II scores in Oct-Nov-Dec. In this case preparation
should be done in the Summer and early Fall (Aug-Sep-October).
What if I forget everything before the real test?
If you choose to start preparing early for the PSAT or SAT-I, you may
register for our Refresher seminars, which take place the weekend
before major test dates. The Refresher allows you to review what you
learned in class and take an additional practice test before the big
day. Students who register early pay only $50; later registrants must
pay the full price of $85.
How do I register?
You can register online or call us at (510) 548-6168. All courses
require a nonrefundable deposit of $250 to reserve space. Should a
student withdraw from a course, this deposit may be used toward any
future Test
Scholars course.
